Enjoy the wonderful taste of our local honey

Our sister company is Hedgeley Honey, run by Ian (read more about him here). His millions of bees produce delicious local honey from more than 100 hives in Northumberland’s Breamish Valley and as far south as Longhorsley.

He’s a member of the Alnwick and District Beekeepers Association, one of the oldest beekeeping associations in the country. Read more about the beautiful Breamish Valley at www.breamishvalley.com. Hedgeley Honey is a proud member of the Bee Farmers Association and has one full-time and two part-time members of staff.

Most of the honey sold in supermarkets comes from multiple sources. Often pasteurised and processed, you don’t know what you’re buying or where it originated from. Thankfully, you know precisely where Hedgeley Honey has come from! Buying locally produced honey such as ours means cutting your carbon footprint, which is good for all of us. If you like honey, check out our recipe section.

Available at our market stalls are a selection of handmade beeswax candles, wax melts and ceramic burners made by a local artisan with lots of seasonal designs.

Nucleus hives and young stock for sale from Hedgeley Honey

As bees are the basis of everything we do, we generally don’t buy in packages or nucleus bees from suppliers. Instead, we build up our own stocks of bees in Northumberland, producing nucleus hives through the season during May, June and July for sale and as young stock for the following season.

When we do buy queens from elsewhere, we do so from a bee breeder in the East of Scotland and they are Carniolan stock (Apis mellifera carnica). They have been found to be prolific, of good temperament and excellent honey producers without consuming masses of stores during the winter.

For enquiries about nucleus hives or young stock, give us a call at 07833 317 399 to discuss your requirements.
