PLEASE NOTE: The nursery is now closed for the winter, reopening in April 2025 (date tbc). Opening hours in the growing season are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11am-4pm. We will still be attending our regular markets (see below).
From us all here in Northumberland, welcome to Northern Ark Nursery – we’re based on the edge of Longhorsley, just off the A697.
We specialise in hardy plants grown at the nursery – if they grow here, they’ll grow almost anywhere! In season, we also grow a large variety of unusual herbs. Some 95 per cent of plants are grown from cuttings taken from our own stock plants and from seed.

We are a small working nursery specialising in a choice and unusual range of truly hardy perennials, shrubs and herbs, all grown at our nursery in rural Northumberland.
We grow all our plants PEAT-FREE! At Northern Ark, we have only one other rule – to grow the plants that we love.

Look out for our van livery, along with our sister company Hedgeley Honey. We often stock our honey and beeswax candles along with plants at the various markets and specialist events we attend.
Welcome to Northern Ark Nursery – Visit us at plant shows and markets
We have regular stalls at regional markets, selling seasonal plants and herbs. Come and say hello!
We now participate in Alnwick Market on Saturdays and at Hexham, Kelso and Morpeth markets. We also appear at one-off markets and shows. Please check our Facebook page before setting out for the latest details and opening times, in case of inclement weather, other commitments, etc.

- Every Saturday until the end of December: Alnwick Market, Northumberland.
- 1st Saturday of the month: Morpeth Farmers’ Market, Northumberland – 8am to 3.30pm.
- 2nd Saturday of the month: Hexham Farmers’ Market, Northumberland – 8am to 1.30pm.
- 4th Saturday of the month: Kelso Farmers’ Market, Scottish Borders – 8am to 1.30pm.
All our plants are grown in PEAT-FREE compost right here at the nursery so you can be sure you’re doing your bit for the environment
